Get Paper Industry (GPI) is a unique handmade paper cooperative committed to sustainability, innovation, and fair trade. We transform waste materials—cotton rags, discarded paper, and agricultural byproducts like banana fibers, straw, and water hyacinth—into high-quality handmade paper and paper products adopting traditional paper making craft of Nepal. Our eco-friendly process minimizes environmental impact, utilizing solar drying techniques and a waste water treatment and its recycling to ensure responsible water use.
Founded in 1985 as General Paper Industry, GPI originally used the Lokta plant as its primary raw material. Our journey took a transformative turn in 1988, when a collaboration with The Body Shop International introduced us to recycled paper production. Thanks to invaluable guidance from Mara Amat and Sam Roddick, daughters of Dame Anita Roddick OBE and Gordon Roddick, we mastered the art of creating high-quality paper from recycled materials.
By 1989, we became a proud fair trade supplier (then known as a “Trade Not Aid” supplier) for The Body Shop. This partnership fueled our growth, increasing our workforce from just 14 artisans in 1989 to 117 by 1993. In 2005, GPI evolved into a worker-owned cooperative, ensuring that all staff members are active stakeholders in the business.
Today, GPI stands as a model of ethical production, empowering artisans, promoting sustainability, and setting global standards in handmade paper craftsmanship.
With decades of experience in handmade paper production, we have perfected the art of crafting high-quality, sustainable, and beautifully designed paper products. Our expertise ensures durability, uniqueness, and excellence in every piece we create.
As a proud member of the World Fair Trade Organization (WFTO), we uphold ethical sourcing, fair wages, and safe working conditions. By choosing our products, you support dignified employment and the empowerment of artisans, especially women from marginalized communities
